Scrap car questions, answered

Everything Scottish drivers ask us about scrapping a car — quotes, payment, collection, paperwork and the law.

Quotes & payment

How do I get a quote?

Enter your registration and postcode in any quote box on the site. We price the car against the reg and send a firm figure straight back — by phone or WhatsApp, usually within minutes.

How much is my car worth?

Most cars in Scotland fetch £120–£400, with vans, 4x4s, pickups and electric cars worth more. It comes down to weight, the metal market and parts value. See our scrap car prices page for current bands.

Do you pay cash?

No — paying cash for scrap is illegal in Scotland under the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 (as it is in England and Wales under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013). We pay by instant bank transfer the moment the car is loaded — how legal payment works. It's faster and gives you a clear record.

When do I get paid?

On collection. The transfer is sent as the car goes on the truck, so it typically reaches your account within minutes.

Collection

Is collection free?

Yes — free anywhere in Scotland, and the price we quote is the price you're paid, with nothing deducted at the kerb.

Do you collect non-runners?

Yes. The car doesn't need to start, drive or have an MOT — we winch non-runners onto the truck.

How soon can you collect?

Most of Scotland is same-day or next-day. Remote and island jobs may take a little longer, but we'll confirm the slot when you book.

Do you cover the whole of Scotland?

We do — from the Borders and Dumfries through the Central Belt to Aberdeen, the Highlands and the islands.

Paperwork & the law

What paperwork do I need?

Ideally your V5C logbook, but we can collect without it. We notify the DVLA and send your Certificate of Destruction, so the car is properly off your name.

Will I get a Certificate of Destruction?

Yes. As a SEPA-licensed authorised treatment facility, we issue a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) and notify the DVLA for every car.

Can I get my road tax back?

Yes. Once the DVLA is notified that the car is scrapped, any full remaining months of road tax are refunded automatically to the registered keeper.

Can I scrap a car without a logbook?

Yes — a missing V5C doesn't stop collection. It just adds a step to the paperwork, which we handle.

Special cases

Can you scrap a car on finance?

Not until the finance is cleared — the car legally belongs to the lender until then. Settle the finance first and we can buy it — here's how that works.

Do you take insurance write-offs?

Yes — Cat S and Cat N salvage are bought at a premium over scrap. We also take Cat B vehicles for parts and metal, and Cat A purely as scrap, recycled to the legal standard.

Can you scrap an electric or hybrid car?

Yes. We're set up to isolate and remove high-voltage batteries safely, and EVs and hybrids often fetch more thanks to the battery and motor.

My car isn't LEZ-compliant — can you help?

Definitely. Older diesels and petrols caught by a Low Emission Zone in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen or Dundee are exactly what we scrap day in, day out.
